About 73% of adults with diabetes have blood pressure greater than or equal to 130/80 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) or use prescription medications for hypertension.

Default High Blood Pressure

It is worth noting that one need not have high blood pressure to be prescribed some medicines to treat high blood pressure. Most notably, ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibitors are frequently prescribed for their prophylactic effect on the kidneys. Some patients with hypertension find that ACE inhibitors work to address their hypertension as well as having a protective effect on their kidneys.
