Default too many temptations for kids!

Wow- there are so many temptations out there for children! I never realized how hard it must be for kids to eat right until I was talking with my niece the other day. She was telling me what most of her friends like to eat every day and how hard it was for her to be around them and still want to eat right. It made me feel sorry for her!

yep.. my sister is trying hard to keep her kids on the right track but it's hard, given the huge PR efforts to push crap into their mouths!

The push to eat junk food is all over and not just television commercials and internet ads. I agree that it must be a new challenge every day for kids who can't eat all the sugar-laden empty-of-all-nutrition foods that are being pushed everywhere they look.

I certainly notice that almost every ad in kiddie primte time (after school) is for junk food. My approach is that if it ain't in the house they can only eat as much of it as their allowance will cover or they can scam at their friends houses

Yes, I agree that it would be very difficult for kids these days to not indulge, considering all the advertising directed at them. But I would think it would be a little easier for parents to go out and buy sugar free products that would be similar to the sugar products that are out there.

of course, that's why juvenile obesity and diabetes is jumping by leaps and bounds - too much bad food out there and a lack of good parenting skills - it's easier to buy the kids crap than say "no" and keep them healthy!

I think the key to this is everything in moderation. Even the sweets. I don't think a cookie every once will hurt, but I do think a whole bag of cookies is BAD.

You have to have something sweet every once and a while

I agree, I don't see anything wrong with having a little cookie every once in a while. Everything has to be in moderation of course. Eating a carrot here and there in between cookie snacks. But there are good treats out there as well. It doesn't always have to be a piece of cake.
