Default My new resolution

No more porcessed food. Summer is making it easy so far. Lots of great seasonal produce. But hopefully if I get in the habit now I can stick to it. I even put an empty cardboard box in my freezer section so i can't put ready meals in there

I find this very interesting. I have to say that I have never really researched the whole topic very much. Can you tell me a few things that you're eating or not eating besides the obvious fruits and vegetables that are in season now? Like what is positively taboo? So many things are "processed" to a certain degree... where are you drawing the line?

Basically anything in a little box with a color photo on it--rather than peering at the label trying to find stuff without added sugar and salt I am making my own food with actual ingrediants one product -- veges (fresh strawberries, avocado, baby potatoes, romain lettuce hmmmmm), eggs, flour, butter (no added salt or sugar) no premade dressing--doing my own vinagrette. That way it has far less salt, sugar, preservatives and other 'stealth' ingredients. It's also more fresh and I have to put the effort into preparing it myself.

Great description to answer my question, ratt, thank you! I've mostly
made a lot of my own food but there are still pretty many boxes with
pictures in the cupboard.

I guess I got lazy with certain dishes. You have proven to be an
inspiration to me and I'm going to dig out my recipe boxes and
books tomorrow.

It kinda started when I realised how many ingrediant where in my oven chips. Now there are just two: potatoes and oil.

Well that sure does sound better than those long lists of unrecognizable
"stuff" many foods have! I did what I said I was going to do and pulled out some recipes yesterday. I'm looking forward to doing some "real" cooking again just because talking about it got me going with it.

Just checking up here, rattitude... since it's September now, do
you think that it will be as easy for you? How's your plan been
working for you?

No problems! Still enormous amounts of fresh produce availabe here at least. I did break down and get some seasoned curly fries but IMHO even moderation should be taken in moderations...

Hehe Now THAT is a quotable quote if ever I heard one!
Yeah, I can relate... I bought some "fast food fries" too... They're
in a red bag... Ore Ida maybe?

Yep, I think I have the Marsh store brand... I try and keep tempations out of the house. Now I am a little nervous about late fall and winter. You see I also like to buy locally. But in winter that leaves you pretty much with tuber not green leafy vegetables and fruit. So where to make the balance? Like maybe I could buy local vegetable that are just frozen without any additives?
