Default ADA, NIDDK, NIH,CDC, meal plan

Ok . so I just got angry. and upset on just how much junk information is floating around out there, and no wonder we as diabetic educators get so frustrated.

A recommended meal plan is as follows:
You must
Breakfast
.
4 carbohydarte choices(45 grams total), bannanas are really good, so is grapefruit, oranges and so on,. every fruit is good. so we combine bread, fruit, milk And we have 4 choices6 grams of protein. You must have protein. This can be an egg,
1 teaspoon at least of a low fat fat

Typical diabetic breakfast
2 pancakes
3 strips of bacon
2 poached eggs
Orange juice
Coffee
Creamer

Lunch
6 grams protein-8 grams protein
4 carbohydrate choices( combine salads- fruts, grains starches)

Typical Diabetic Lunch

Turkey Club Sandwich
Fried potatoes
Iced sweet tea
Tossed salad with dressing
Cup of soup cauliflower cheddar
Slice of apple pie with cheese
Coffee with creamer

This gourmet dinner is actually a low carb dinner. Lets look at the menu.
4-6 ounces of steak--0 carbs
Onions and mushrooms- 0 carbs
1- 5 ounce glass of wine- 0 carbs. It’s counted s an extra
1 cup seasoned carrots 15 grams carbs
small tossed salad with 2 table spoons Viva Italian dressing- 0 carbs
Coffee or tea sweetened with Splenda and coffee lightener ( 1/2 -N- 1/2 2 table spoons 2
grams 0 carbs)
1/8 of an 8 inch plain chocolate cake = 2 carbs
This entire meal has only 3 carbs in it.

you see the ideas that you have with small meals works for an idea and for some in practicece. What happens is whe need to fill our stomachs so we dont get hungry and we get to taste everything.
Grazing often leads to mis counting on carbohydrates and unwanted calories.

good point - it's too often misinterpreted as just eating anything you want, just spread out over hours...

excellent post!
