Default Alcohol

I like to go out with my friends, and we have a few drinks. Am I still allowed to do that? I've always liked sweeter drinks, but I can switch to something without sugar in it. Maybe something with grapefruit juice instead of soda. Will this cause problems for me?

If you have diabetes and take insulin shots or oral diabetes pills, you risk low blood sugar when you drink alcohol.

Light beer and dry wines are good choices. They have less alcohol and carbohydrates and fewer calories.

To make drinks last longer, try a "spritzer." Mix wine with sparkling water, club soda, or diet soda. Try a "virgin" Bloody Mary made without alcohol.

it's not really a good idea - why not take advantage of the many "designated driver" deals that bars offer and get all you can drink of the diet stuff?

Apart from what Lavanay and Thumperfive suggested, you might want to try this table I found at Joslin.org. Looking at the guideline, choose something with less carbohydrates and calories, such as light wine (55 calories and 1.3g carbohydrates) and red wine (85 calories 1.0g carbohydrates).

Default ADA guideline

The ADA guideline and the Heart Association came together to make this reccomendation:
1 5 ounce glass of wine is considered a 5 gram free choice. that is you can have 1- 5 ounce glass of wine and count it as nothing. However two glasses and up must be considered carbohydrates. Its not the true carbohydrate count, but because it does impact glucose metabolism, you have to consider it 5 grams of carb.
the AHA suggests keeping with red wines, because of the phytophenols that help to fight plaque in the arteries.

So haveing a full glass of wine( 5-8 ounces) make it a nice red wine, since light wines often have had additives added to give it body and nose.

just be careful with red wines - if you're prone to migraines, it's a killer start to a headache!

Default Migraines frfom wine?

I never found that. of course I dont drink a wine anymore either.
But I used to find that a glass of red or zinfindel worked with a baby aspririn to curb a headache.

I get migraines frequently and those erotamine derivitives dont work at all.
