Default Glucose up in morning?

I am new to watching my glucose levels, and I see my glucose is about 120 in the morning although I haven't eaten for 10 - 12 hours? My glucose level is about 85 in the afternoon, about 4 hours after eating lunch. Why is that?

fasting levels should be between 70 and 110. 120 is still considerednormal.
For a number fo reasons.

Your numbers are 120 after not eating for hours because of glycogen loading. When the body does not get food, teyh liver excretes glycogen to compansate and keep the works going.

hen yur body has teh right combinatiosn of proteins fats and carbohyadrtes it works effectively with teh insulin that your body produces.

To get abetter idea of what your post prandial or after meal levels are, dont go the four hours, thats when tehbody begins to peter out and you are hitting alow point. But instead do it 2 hours after eating to see how high you are.
I woudl say by teh numbers you are telling me you are either on the perfect deit and medication routine or are not truly diabetic, or are getting ahold because of familial tendencies. All fo whgich aer awsome reasons to keep track!

Default Glucose up in morning?

I agree with jimmys devoted that glycogen loading may be a factor, but it is not the sole reason blood glucose levels may be elevated in the morning. For a long time, I was told I must be impacted by the dawn effect, which is essentially hormonal release prior to waking. However, a closer examination revealed that was not the cause at all, it was the protein I ate for dinner. Like it or not, all protein is eventually metabolized into blood glucose. The difference is that it generally takes 6-8 hours to occur rather than the short time typically seen with refined carbohydrates. Doctors have instructed patients that basal insulin is supposed to accommodate this, but for many, this is insufficient. I learned it by carefully watching my blood glucose test results with information about what I ate for dinner the night before. When I had a larger serving of protein, the morning high was much higher, and when I did not have protein for dinner (or had small amounts derived from eggs or fish), I found my morning highs were practically non-existent.

To address the issue, I found that adjusting my basals upwards overnight (when I was pumping) was the only way to address this, and when I went back to shots, found that Lantus was a terrible solution and that NPH (Novolin or Humulin N) worked far better for me. The important thing is to get to the root cause of your morning highs and only then can you determine how best to address it!

Default I thought Nph was better

The longer I am on lantus the more I am finding out the same thing that happened with you.
Though I ahve never experienced dawn pehnomena to an extent, I ahve had the 3 am drop outs. Often down into the 30s.

I ahve noticed since I stopped Actos and Zetia I seem to be more even. almost at a consistent level.
Not much ahs been shown on teh protein exchange effect. Though its facinating reading. MAny researchers say that its ebcaus eo fteh eed fo protein metabolism and teh release and use of glycogens from within the entire system that dawn can happen.
Now four reaearchers can agree on it, but what every does say it happens and each persons body creates it.

I fond that dawn headaches are worse. LIke when you sleep too much have a great effect on my own Bgs.

But you just proved what I have been thinking abotu the lantus.. I am thinking abotu switching to Nph 70//30 mix forbetter control than the lantus.

Default Dawn Phenomenon Article

A person with a high blood glucose reading in the morning could be demonstrating dawn phenomenon. The salient feature of that phenomenon is high blood glucose, with the level peaking sometime between the hours of 4 am and 8 am...
