Hi Everybody! My Mom was diagnosed with diabeties (not sure how to spell it) and I came here in hopes of learning more about it. Any information or tips on where to get information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Default welcome

This is an amazing place to get all kinds of different information. As a mom with diabetes my daughter went with me to every diabetic education meeting there was. My hubby went and become literally my life coach on it.
I can say that a good day planner is a much needed tool, a good meter is a must. MAke usre when your mom gets her meter you know how to use it too..
I can also say that Diabetes is not what it once was. Too many meds and treatments to make the quality and qquantity of life better. Oh and have her try different activities that are fun. Check out Curves for a free two week visit for both of you to have some fun!

Thank you so very much, I really appreciate your suggestions and your so right things are different concerning treatment then they used to be and I'm so glad that they are or I would have been terrified when my Mom was diagnosed.

I am 16th generationdiabetic. everyone on my fathers sides both paternal and maternal side have/had diabetes. both insulin controlled and pill controlled. All of my family with the exception of my father( the doctor didnt change his treatment to insulin after he exhausted higher doseage stimulants) lived to very very old ages with diabetes. My great grandfather being the longest. he died at 92 from an infection that the doctor didnt catch.

It is possible to live a very long and highly active life.

Hi there! I know some since my grandma has it and I had it during pregnancy.

Stick to proteins but not exclusively. Keep some glucose pills in purse just in case and check blood sugars two hours after meals.
