Hi,my name is Jacqui.I was diagnosed Type 2 last May.I am still struggling with Diabetes.and am finding I am having lots of ups and downs.I have recently gone through a rough patch where my readings went very high for no apparant reason.Medication has been increased,I am on 3 Metformin a day and 4 Gliclazide.I am beginning to settle down now,but some of this is due to my low carb diet.I have been on other forums and have picked up information from others about diet which has really helped. It's nice to talk to others who are in your situation,I don't find my doctor much help.

Hi Nixo and welcome! Diabetes is one of those "patient managed" diseases, so I'm not surprised your doctor isn't much help.

The best way to deal with it is to learn all you can and then apply it to your life.

Don't expect to be perfect, or you will set yourself up for disappointment.

DO be proactive though! Many doctors find it easier to hand out pills instead of teaching patients about a healthy diet and exercise. This can do wonders to help some of the problems associated with diabetes.

Also realize that illness, stress, and hormones within the body can all affect glucose levels. The key is to learn how to MANAGE this.

Have you seen a Certified Diabetes Nurse Educator or dietitian?
