You did not mention whether your parents had type 1 or type 2 diabetes, but these are different diseases with unrelated etiologies. Generally type 2 diabetes has a much stronger family linkage than does type 1 (95% of all type 1 patients have absolutely no family history of the disease, although the odds are increased slightly if you have a parent or sibling with the disease).

Having said that, even with a family history of either type does not make getting diabetes inevitable, and frequently, type 2 can actually be avoided (no such luck with type 1 diabetes, as an autoimmune disease, there is no way to prevent it). Following common sense in terms of caring for yourself is always a good idea, and you should insist on regular monitoring to ensure that if you do develop the condition, you are diagnosed rapidly so you can be treated appropriately. A lot of bodily damage is done while patients with type 2 are undiagnosed, so getting appropriate care can go a long way towards preventing that damage.

Default my family has both thank you

My family has both. As I said I am 16th generation diabetic.
All of us have the same genetic variation.
The type 1s and the type 2 were all genetic.

There has always been and always will be a strong genetic predisposition regardless if type 1 or type 2.

I thought you said you have MODY? The genetics for that are separate and different from both Type 1 and the common form of Type 2.

A MODY who takes insulin in NOT a Type 1. They are a Type 2 (MODY) who needs insulin.
