Default Can you tell your Blood Sugar without testing?

My MIL claims that she can tell her blood sugar level in the morning without testing - I think she's a bit whack, but I was wondering if anyone was able to do this...

I am not a diabetic but the only thing that I can tell is when my blood sugar has gone low. I can feel it when I get shaky and just don't feel good and if I eat something with a little sugar in it I am fine.

the same thing happens to me, which is why whenever I'm out I have a bunch of trail mix with me if I get shaky - even if my husband has to feed it to me!

I just don't know if you can know your system so accurately...

Has anyone actually had surgically implanted the new insulin pump that also tells you the blood sugar level by glancing down at the numbers on the pump? I know there is a cominbation insulin pump and blood sugar level reading device that was supposed to come on the market at the end of this summer (2006), but have not met anyone who has been fortunate enough to get the new device and to learn how effective it is and how accurate the blood sugar level readings are. I'd love to hear from someone who has tried this new device. I'm mainly concerned about the accuracy of the blood sugar level readings. I know the only fault they found with the new device during its initial testing stage was that the blood sugar level reading was a little off when the person was involved in vigorous activity, like playing football. Thanks

I don't think that its possible for any normal human being to tell his/her blood sugar without testing. However, one can easily feel the difference when it goes to a very low level or is at a high level.

I completely agree. I run low anyway so when mine drops I can tell because I get very weak. I don't think anyone can tell excatly without testing it.

As a diabetic, and after afew years of learnig your body you can tell. I can tell when I am too high or two low.
Too high my lips burn, i cant pee and i have tingling( severe neuropathy).
When its too low I cant stand up, i am sweaty and my heart rate elevates ot over 150 beats a minute.

I have to may a omment though on teh comment made about having a ump surgically implanted....
First the pump a mnimed type is not surgically implanted. Its infusion set is a tube and a needle in casing. the needle port is fitted under the skin which is switched around. You do it yourself after learning how. Its held in place with a special covering.
You wear the actual pumpo on your hip, sleevem bra. the uinsulin vial is i\ enclosed in an acessable place.

The only surgical technique is apiggback pancrease or cell pack, or pancrease transplant.

More and more people aer going to the pump because its so easy.
