Default Do You Wear Medical Alert Jewelry?

I know we are supposed to wear some form of Diabetes alert jewelry on our bodies, be it a bracelet or a necklace, but I just can't bring myself to labeling myself like that, especially when it has to do with jewelry.

I was warned years ago never to get the really expensive medical jewelry because it is too easily taken off the person and gets "misplaced." And I also just don't want to see that on me all the time.

I do have a medical alert identity card on me in my wallet and that can be looked at if something happens. I know the jewelry makes sense but I just can't do it. I just don't like it at all.

Does anyone here wear such jewelry and how do you feel about it?

I wear a metal wrist band that says diabetes on it that I got from a web site. I tried the bracelet & necklace & didn't like either of them. I really like the band, it's so comfortable I don't even know I'm wearing it most of the time. I also keep a medical alert card in my wallet.

Is it because the band is plain or simple? That way it doesn't feel like jewelry?

Did you get it from a diabetic website and is it expensive?

It's just that I know that when you take insulin you should wear eaasy ID, but I never felt comfortable with the bracelet. But you say this feels OK to you?

If I have to take insulin again, I know I need something more than the wallet ID.

my diabetes id is 14 carat gold because everything else I tried, even the stuff they claimed wouldn't, gave me a vicious red rash. I just can't wear other metals.
Now do I really wear it?
Yes, I do. I never go out of the house without it, only take it off to shower. I didn't use to even take it off for that but it's gotten looser(I've lost a little weight) and I was afraid it would fall off and go down the drain.
I honestly rarely remember it is there I am so used to wearing it, just like my wedding rings.
