when we ran teh diabetes booth I used to run a diabeets booth every year at our local County fair.
Id offer free glucose kits, glucose testing and samples it was ahoot... we worked with the ADA and gave out exchange guides too.........
Anyway poeple woudl come by teh booth and they woudl say
I goit sugar, bioy are my feet hurting:. so we would ask if theyw anted a BG test and tehy did it themsleves. and tehywoudl be 300 or more... lucky fo rus an ambulance was right outside. we woudl offer them a new eschange guide, a busioness card from the local diabetologist and he worled with us to make appointments.
One lady was in a cast from wher she had a foot amputated....... she was complaining of her other foot hurting and being hot.. she came over and we got to talking, so we asked would she like to try a new low carb drink.
she said no she'd rather have her Coke....... her husband then brought over a funnel cake........
for 7 days we stayed up there....... we gave away all of our meters and zero exchange books.......
we saw known diabetics scrafing all kinds of caramel apples, cotton candy, funel cakes, lemonade liek crazy and then sit and compain under then tent or in teh building abotu how bad their sugar was.....
now if you ahve people that tyou can help and are willing tolisten then fine.
However what we were running into was such a high majority fo diabetic here that dont care......
theer was a woman that i know here who started with a blister on her foot, it grew to gangrene, she had it lanced cleaned and for months it never healed..
we tried ot ocnvince her to go on insulin, its SOP for that type of thing bust she was afrraid
I think a small percentage, mostly regional have different outlooks on how they handle their diabetes.....and I think thats a big key in control |
