Default afraid of the needle

Afraid of the needle

So I was at this restaurant the other day and my Glucose level was high, 193. So I took out my vial and a syringe and gave myself a shot at the table…… no biggie.

Then I was reading in Diabetes Health magazine about a woman who is afraid of the needle. She shivvers at the thought of giving herself an injection. And I thought.. why?

Why be afraid of a tiny hair thin needle? Its not scary.
Then I was talking with a diabetologist and he said he had patients the same way.
It seems as though there is a misconception that if you need a pill its less severe diabetes than if you need a shot….. It’s a dangerous misconception. I think its because we have taken away that reality of a having to deal with it, and just pop a pill and your better.

What I am seeing though is so many who are on insulin and just afraid its going to hurt to give a shot to yourself. They are afraid the needle will break off in the skin. Afraid of the insulin that they are worse if they need it, afraid that the shot will hurt.

I am/was afraid that diabetes will kill me… so the needle aint so bad.
