Default Going on vacation with Diabetes

Many of us go away and do things and just take along our goodies. Some peopel ahve a hard time just throwing some insulin or meds in a totebag, a few highpro and glucose bars. meter and heading out.
For me its just thats imple. I go with my freestyle lite meter and pop an insulin vial and a few syringes in my bag, take a few packs ofprotein waterflavor and a few salt water taffy pieces and I am out the door and on the road.

HUbbya dn daughter are great about too highs and too lows too.....

I am not into scheuled eating any more i get too nauseated eating too much.
But i never thought of it as a problem to just go..........

what about the rest.........

julie

Before I got my numbers under control, I only traveled after a lot of preparations. We used to joke that D-day had less preparation than I did before going anywhere.

But then again, most of my diabetic life was before we had as many helpful things. Now with small meters and prepackaged food bars, you can just throw stuff together and go. I had a huge meter that required a lot of things to test blood. I had to carefully think about what food I would need while on the go and cook and pack it up. Bags that you could freeze and use to keep insulin had just come out and getting one to use was a big expense.

I hate to sound like an old coot, but people these days just don't realize how good life is with so many helpful products for diabetes.

It also helps that more people understand the disease now. It used to be sort of shameful to admit you had it.

I still make long preparations when traveling, and diabetes is just another part of that planning for whatever might come up.

My Dad nevertested in fornt of us.. I have his mneter whoich bayer maintains. he used to use harpoons, tissues, wiping, timing.............. irtt was a major undertaking.
My first meter which I still use is the Once touch Profile........ 45 seconds......
now i have teh Freestyle Lite.. five seconds or less and itty bitty drop and wham i am done and i can get on with it.

I keep it in my Shoulderbag with South Beach Mint Chocolate bar and a few Salt water taffys........

We went to OBX last year and I threw it in my snorkel bag and I could test on thge beach. it was great.
