you should always have an annual physical, irregardless of what you have been diagnosed with - and ask for a sugar test if it runs in the family!

Default Glucose tolerancec test

First may I comment on a sugar test.. this is an archaic misnomer. being as we are in a diabetci forum lets call it what it is, Glucose level.

A simple fingerstick on am orning fast will give an indication yes, but what you are referring to as a sugar test is actually avery long anc\d complicated process.
A GTT, glucose tolerance test begins with a fast for at least 12 hours.
Blood is drawn and a plasma base level is detrmined along wiht your insulin level. If after that comes back in the 70-90 range, there is no need to go further. However, if its over 90-95 then the test continues. A glucose drink is given. The solution has a certain percentage of glucose. Your blood is drawn every 15, 30 and 45 minutes and at 2 hours. Readings are indicated. You must drink the entire bottle of this yucky sweet and thick drink.
You are then told to wait at least an hour after the last blood draw and to go and eat a specific food menu. The menu must be followed.
again blood is drawn at 15, 30, 45 and 2 hours afterwards.

A ketone blood level is also done, as well as urine ketone and urine proteins and spillover urine tests. This urine testing is also known as a Chem10.

After all of this is done and you remain in the normal ranges, you are good to go. However if at any time your glucose numbers rise and do not fall appropriately then insulin is given and remnitored to check fall time.

Its not as easy as a simple " sugar test".n Because fingersticks even in full blown diabeetics have variables that affect its morning outcome. Such as high proteins the evening before is a biggie.

Default denial

Thats where itcome in. Ignoring or not recognizing the sigs.
Every diabetic has some sort of sign, a cut that doesnt heal as well as itshould, a few more trips toteh bathroom, a few more cups of water.. typical things that often go unfocused on.
So there I was.. I was in denial too. hubby knew.. hubby picked up on it quick..... but I denied it.........
thast why theer is this false precept that its a silent kiler.. its not.. its in your face and yo just choose to deny it and not focus on teh possibility.

I have heard but have not experienced the night sweats. I believe night sweats is another sign of being a diabetic, but it is a sign of a severe diabetic?

Default wrong about obesity

Obesity is a sign of metabolic syndrom.
However unexplained weightloss is a keyt factor in symptoms if un diagnosed untreated diabetes.
The reason is simple. When your blood glucose is elevated you are producing ketones. Ketones are an acetone thatd issolves ugars because your body is not getting what it needs, its an endles sloop. So yyou literally waste away, while your body is dissolving.

Obesity is not, according to teh endocrinoologists and diabetolosists and my collegues a sig of diabetes, but rather a sign of a predisposition to metabolic problems. By being sedentery you gain weight, which they think causes yoru body to peter out insulina nd not allow your body to sensitize and use insulin.
Whjat anew study showed was that obesity is anotherfactor alltoigether is the probability of developing future diabetes.
hence teh " diabetes scare".
What tthey are still sticking by is that obesity can lead to other major problems, and diabetes might be one later on.

I weighd alot and when i had my first bout I slept for threemonths and lost 112 pounds........... i wasnt dieting. My BGs were at 285 fasting. IN threemonths i weighed almost 1/3 of my weight.
It was not becasue I was obese, i was obese because I had other complications including microalbinuria and out of control white count.
I had been diaebtci all of my life and it was never controlled, even though I eat very little junk food and was a hard core company ballet dancer......
