Default Pregnant and Diabetic

I am not diabetic but when I was pregnant with my first child I took the 1 hour glucose test and it came back that I failed it by 4 points. I was beside myself. After I got the phone call I was on the couch until my husband got home from work. Looking back I know what caused it. I was drinking lots of capri sun drinks and getting into the sweets a little too much. I had to go on a week long diet and then go back for the 3 hour glucose test. So not fun at all. I can't even tell you how many times they stuck me with that needle. That one came back fine and I had a healthy baby girl. I am currently pregnant with my second child and am concerned about the glucose test. I think I will be fine for a couple of reasons. One is that I have lost almost 60 pounds since my daughter was born and I only gained 11 pounds with her. Second I am trying really hard to watch what I eat and not load up on the sugar. My dr. says high protein so that is what I am trying to do.

I just want to wish you the best of luck with the glucose test and the new baby. I know how you feel about the fear of the glucose test I was fearful myself with my first and only child but things worked out fine so I am sure you will be fine.

I was scared too with my kids with the the glucose test. Thank god everything came out ok but I know that it is very scary to wait by the phone for those results. I had a friend that was gestational for her 3 child but not her first 2. To me what was really weird is that she probably weighs 108 pounds soaking wet. Just watch what you eat. Try and stay away from the sweets even though they are so tempting. Eat healthy for you and your baby. Good luck, I miss having a little one around

Pregnancy can do some strange things to your body can't it. I'm glad that everything is ok. We need to remember that even though we are pregnant, it doesn't mean "OPEN SEASON" to every food in sight. We have a life inside of us and we need to protect it as well as ourselves.

I know when I was pregnant, I have cravings for grapefruit! LOL

My wife was just you, Bootsie. She failed her first test but came through the second one fine. She was so upset by the whole thing. She followed the diet and everything came out fine. When we got the call that she had passed the second test I swear we were more excited about her passing the glucose test than we were when we found out we were having a baby. Just eat right and everthing will be fine. Good Luck.

I had the same problem for two of my kids. I was diagnosed with the pregnancy diabetes. I failed the test both times. After I had the kids, it went away. I was so relieved.
