Default How many people in your family have diabetes?

I am the youngest of 5 girls, I know my poor father hehe. My father past away 3 years ago and was diabetic. 3 of my 4 older sisters are diabetic and my mother was just diagnosed as being diabetic. I am sure I am next in line so I have stated already trying to get my weight under control to help lessen my chances of becoming diabetic. If I know now that I can help myself out by getting my diet and my weight in check I am so going to do everything I can to do that. Knowing that I am at risk, in my opinion would be foolish not to do anything about it. Are you the only one that is diabetic in your family or how many of your family members have diabetes?

In my family my great grandmother was diabetic and now my grandmother and her sister are both diabetic. I am trying to beat this as I am not diabetic yet and carry a lot of extra weight and am a sucker for sweets.

My grandmother was the only person that I knew in my family that had diabetes. She didn't watch her diet and ended up getting her foot amputated. She loved her sweets

My grandmother had diabetes and one of my aunts is diabetic. My cousin was told by the doctor that if he doesn't lose weight he is very likely to become diabetic as well. Neither of my parents are diabetic but that doesn't mean that is may not happen. I walk a lot and really try and watch what I eat to make sure I don't become diabetic. I am also trying to teach my kids that eating healthy will benefit them in the long run. It is really hard trying to convince a 5 year old and a 7 year old that carrots are much better for them than the chocolate cake, but I am really trying. We do keep sweets out of the house for the most part but sometimes a sweet treat isn't so bad as long as it is not all the time.

Only my grandma. She was not overweight, but I thing the sweets is what caused it. I don't think anyone else in our family has it.

Default 16th generation diabetic.

When I was 7 I was told I was borderline. After many years I come to find out that its called MODY.
Anyway, after I was finally put on medicaqtion at the age of 39, My hubby and I did some talking.
My diabetes is Fraternal. that is it stems form my fathers side. Both sides that it. Both his mothers family and his fathers family were known diabetics.

My Grandfather passed away from a Dr.s lack of maintinaing treatment for his diabetes.
My Grandfather passed away frfom renal failure due to his diabetes at 79, my grandmother passed away from a pre existing condition but may have been worsened by her diabetes. She was lucky. She had been on diabansese since it had come out.
My father has two brothers. My father passed away from diabetes because a Drl. refused to acknolwedge that the glucotrol was not working anymore. My fathers middle brother was cut up a little a t a time because he refused to take care of his diabetes. My fathers youngest brother was smart. he began shots right away. 10 UR prior to each meal and any snacks.

I luckily ave been the youngest to be diagnosed and become agressive with it.
I chose shots when I saw that glucotrolw as not working. I chose Actos when I wasnt getting teh most from my insulin.

So for me we can chart even further than I have spoken here. My duaghter is Hypoglycemic and we have her testing as well.

Default Metabolic Syndrom, true diabetes

There is scuttlebutt in teh medical community of the legitimacy of metabolic syndrom.
Many people are being told they ahve diabetes when they in fact dont have diabetes. they are not going by complete bloodwork, But rather lifestyle, weight and eating patterns.
This is causing a great concern that many true diabetics are being skipped over for agressive treatment.

If you have multiple lineage that has diabetes then chances are good you have a DNA marker for it.There s nothing you can do. Its genetic.

There are causitive efects of creating diabetes. Inoculations, car accidents, injuries and so on can damage your [ancreas.
yes you can exhaust your pancreas by eating junk. Spike elevated glucose levels can be reactive to any host of things.
Trulty being diabetic encompasses all type so ftests and consistant patterns of symptoms. Just being overweight does not mean you have a predisposition to diabetes. I know many highly and morbidly obsese people that have lower BG levels than I do.

The best way to prevent diabetes is to have yourself tested.. every three months to see what you HB1AC level is. Thast the best defense. genetic testing is another.

TRue diabetes is something you cant prevent, hold off or change if your family ahs a history of it. You can however learn at a young age on how to manage it.
