Default Traveling and Diabetes

The old rules still apply for diabetics when trtaveling, now more than ever. Syringes must be in their original bubble pack or individually wrapped. Insulin muct be in its box with a copy of the RX actually on the vial as well, incase you open it.
Lancets must be in a ziplock bag seperate, and glucose meter must ahve battery removed and seperate.

Its rediculous to even think o fthat> So the strrips that come on a vial are your best bet as its a totally sealed unit. LAncets can come in pre packaged one use units and you throw it away, it just can be reused.

Insulin vials are actually a smart thing because of you loose the box you have the rx on teh bottle. A little inconvienece but you travel healthy.

Good points here. I guess we all just have to give up a little of the convenience we'd been used to as a trade-off for safety.

Safety is definetly a factor, but when traveling you also have to keep in mind what other places might see as a potential danger. For instance, the syranges. If they aren't marked properly with the Rx then people may get the wrong impression.

Very true... and it's more important now than it used to be, of course. In the distant past, I assume that if bags were even checked, saying "diabetic" would be enough to say to the security person. Surely no longer.

I think if you are trraveling at this point, you might as well, if on insulin just go for the nasal spray. I cant wait till teh patch is available.

For oral meds you need vials sealed at the pharamcy. Or better yet yo can go to the hospital and have daily doses packed in ubble packaging for convenience. And each pack has a label on it.

We have just taken to driving everywhere. SO much easier, you get to se ehtings and dont have the headaches.
They are suggesting now that every US citizen get apassport as backup ID regardless if they travel or not. And have each condition diplayed promonenetly on teh medical sheet and their doctors name so they can confirm.
I prefer to have the scanable chip. I mean why not go all the way right.....
