Stress and blood sugar spikes

Default Stress and blood sugar spikes

Do others here have the problem with their blood sugar when under stress? Do you have a way of coping or preventing the stress? How does stress effect your sugar

My mother does and then it takes weeks or months to get it back down. Just recently her blood sugar spiked to 300 because she was told she needed a whole new roof on her house after some storm damage. Her blood sugar levels then stay over 200 for awhile. That is just one example.

As with any autonomic reaction strtess does the a number on BG levels. The body reacts to sress by releaseing epinephrine and adrenaline, which in turn triggers an activate dresponse form teh thyroid gland to release glycogen from the liver for that boost of instant extended energy.
the problem is it can also trigger an eating need regardless if your in control in a sedate mood.
Glycogen is a highly concentrrated naturally produceed glucose. So when it excretes in realtion to stressors Bgs elevate. Thast one reason why we are told that we need stress reduction techniques along with our other self managment techniques.

I can't say I don't know what it is but i mean its obvious that when your body is affected by depression or stress that it under goes problems. my sugar gets crazy when I become stressed and it doesn't do anything but make me feel even worse.

A lot of times when your stressed or depressed, you don't care to take care of yourself the proper way. So that Is another factor which would raise your sugars as well, as you aren't doing things for yourself the way you should.

I stress osmthing terrible. I often worry over everything, though I ahve to admit I am getting better. I only have panic atatcks ocassionaly now. BUt what I am finding myself doing is not stressing over things as much as I used to. All of us ahve good jobs, and money is better than it was, family is good and solid.. so all is great!
My daughter hubby and I developed this ritual if you will. Tea time. When things get too much we sit down and have a pot of tea and just forget, take abreather. This is as much for my benefit as for his. He has had a number fo stress heart attacks.

Worrying over things that ned to be worried over is one thing. Woorrying over things that can be fixed is internal stressing> And knowing the difference between the two, of whether its fixable or not is what makes stress less or more on the person.
