Default re support groups

I saw an advertisement at my library for a diabetes support group. On one level I would like to have someone face-to-face to talk to but then I wonder if it is more for people with more advanced problem rather than just following a diet and keeping an eye on blood glucose. I mean technically speaking I'm not sure I even "have" diabetes....?

I think support groups for anything are awesome. They help you interact with people who understand what your going through and someone usually has good advice and tips that you may not have thought of.

Default I ran a support group

In some areas of the country support groups are phenomenal.
I personally liked them when I was in WW when I was younger. Its just a feeling of commeraderie.
Here I ran, or should I say try to run a support group for the ADA.

NO ONE WAS INTERESTED.

I captalized this because it just amazed me that no one wanted or cared about it. Even though our county was and is one of the highest in the state with diabetics with full blown variaties.
So in some areas they are very worthwhile, but in some areas they are just not accepted or participant used.

I think support groups are great for people, too. Some people
find it easier to find their support from online groups, though,
too.... which is fantastic in itself that such things are available.

Yes, I think with the internet, it gives the people the option of face to face support or online support which is awesome for people who can't get out or who aren't comfortable sharing their situation face to face.

I have often noticed that it's easier to share in an email than face
to face. Support groups via the Internet are doing some great
things. The biggest problem is when you have people who aren't
being honest for whatever reason.

The internet is a lot riskier for sharing info so you have to be prepared that there are some people out there who will not be truthful with you and you have to judge for yourself what info and tips you find reliable.

Yes, I agree. It's also important to make sure not to give out personal information. That is especially vital if the person who's asking for it seems "exactly like you." I think a lot of support and help can be given without having to give up personal information.

I would NEVER give out personal info. Just some basics of what I am going through and some information on how I have learned to live comfortably with it.

I see ths forum as a great support group. Maybe its just me, but if you read the exchanges and personal accounts, we are doing a support without the need for personal information.
