This has just given me an idea. Maybe if I find a local support group for my dad, he'll go to a meeting or two. Maybe he'll meet someone who is doing all the right things and still managing to have a good life.

I'm not sure why my dad won't comply with doctor's orders. Maybe a support group will be a great help to him. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks for a good idea everyone.

Default Cintact your local offices

Call your local hospitals. they have, well amost every hospital nowadays has a diabetes management class. Youll want to talk to teh dabetes education, diabetes educator at your local hospital. That what they are called. Just ask f if they ahve one, if they dont ask which hospital does..
Then call your local ADA office. Go to diabetes.org and get the phone number for the place closest to you. They usually have alisting of all support groups. You an call the Y, and se if they have any. The local community centers often have a roster of support groups that meet.

I hope this helped give you some leads.

julie

I agree with this idea... I'm not from a big area, but even the smaller hospital
here has classes and support groups like this. It often is what someone
needs to get serious about taking care of themselves, knowing and seeing others who are facing the same things.

Yes, a lot of things in life end up being easier to face when knowing others are
facing the same kinds of challenges.

Its a good place ot connect with others who may give out there phone numbers and you can share on a one on one basisi. MAny long term experienced diabetics give freely of their time and their knowldge and share experiences.
I know that I am on the receievening end of a long distance friendship with another diabetic.. we support each other and share and it makes it easier all tehw ay around.

I think every issue that may have an emotional effect on you should have some type of support group you know.
