A new study suggests that environmental factors might lead to diabetes:

I think the study just goes to show actually how little we really know about it, despite it's prevalence.

But at least it may go some way to establishing why the problem is gaining in momentum.

Interesting...thanks for posting.

I was glad to see that there was a substantial number of test subjects. This may truly lead to some new discoveries.

Wow that is interesting. I was always wondering since so many people say that diabetes is strictly hereditary how people have none in their family end up with the disease, this may eventually answer that question.

you can never place all of your trust in genetics to either save you or condemn you for anything, imo...

it is an interesting study. My question is why does it pop up suddenly and at various ages.

I just don't want to see it being used as an excuse for parents who ignore taking care of their children and shrugging it off on genetics and where they live; instead of eating properly!

Default Immuni\osystem compromise

It has been along established fact that diabetes ia\s an autoimmune attack mechanisism. That si a mobius loop.
What his articl;e has done was give a gist and not a ocmplete record of whatthe complete study was.
What you are not seeing is that a majority fo people during this time period were given new vaccines, vaccines that created new reactions, infections of staphy type that will bring down an immuno system.
What yu also ae b not seing i sthat majority fo the UK subjects were already suspect diabetics prior.
The children who are a " new cluster" as was put, were also based on familial and past generation dxd diabetics with no parents showing current signs.

What we have to realize when articles are published not all information is given. This is to create a view that is wanted to create.
So its really a slightly flase positive on teh new crop.
BUt when you do vaccine failure. vaccine immunizaztion reactiosn and incidence of diabnetses we can see a great number of correlations.

You're not too bright, are you? I can guess that you are a fat Type 2. This article is about TYPE ONE AUTOIMMUNE DIABETES!!!!!!! A disease of the immune system!!! It usually first appears in kids, but can develop at any age. It has NOTHING to do with lifestyle!!!!!!

I know the majority of the US is fat, and thus most diabetics are Type 2, but I find it hard to believe so many people are still so ignorant!

T1 occurs when the IMMUNE system attacks the beta cells that produce insulin in the pancreas and destroys them. Much like Lupus or MS. Would you tell a Lupus patient they caused their disease by eating too many cupcakes?! Different diseases, but same defective immune mechanism and shared common genetics as T1.

It is well known genetics play a role in T1, then an environmental trigger such as a virus or bacteria causes the disease to "express" itself. THAT is why the article is referring to genetics and viruses. DUH!

Sorry to sound so ticked off, but really, one more ignorant person telling me that "my mother must have given me Coke in my bottle" because I developed Type one diabetes as an infant, is one too many. For the record, I was breastfed.

Get some education and common sense, people!

Not all of us have Type 2.

P.S. The genetics and causes for Type 1 and Type 2 are completely different. The increase in Type 1 has nothing to do with the increase in Type 2 (the lifestyle related kind).

Default Type 2 lifestyle?? OH please

Ok here is fact on type 2.. it use ot be called Senile diabetes.
why,, because it came from old age and teh diseases and traetments that affected older people.

MODY is type 2 for juveniles. YES juveniles get type 2. Whiel you may think its because of lifestyle,, how ignormnat. Its just as genetic as you can be,And while they are finding an increase in insulinr eduction in many its still avery very real type of TRUE diabetes.
I come from 16 generations of diabetics. I wa fiorst dxd at 4! as MODY, then at & as n=borderline and then as I go tolder it was full blown diabetes.

Whiel I was lucky to be ocntrolled by quarterly shots of original beef insulin many were nto as fortunate. especially those with Brittle.

Whiel diet has a great affect on it, we have to look at all teh causes of it.
We have genetics, which play a very large part in when, how and which type we develop or get.
We have to look at teh clicnial factual studeis on disease that cause it. Measels, and mealseslinncoualtion, Virusus such as varicilla and other herpes which tax the immuni sytems to the max, we have Mono which n adults is a reason why so many develop it. We have cancer and the taxation on the sntire ysstem with Chemo, we have hep[atitis C which leads o not only to Epstein Barre but Gillian Barre, we have MS, PLeva, auto accidents, the Flu, a cold, an allergic reaction ot afood or medication, over use of corticosteroids, medications.

Why lifestyle may ahve an impact , type 2 is not lifestyle caused in all cases.
Type 2 is Dxd base don insulin levels and outcomes of the GTT.
