Default Could they have made a mistake?

I don't often question anything my doctors tell me, but I seriously wonder if a mistake was made when I was diagnosed as diabetic. My numbers never go above 130 on my readings every day. The blood test my doctor does every 3 months always comes back fine. Even on occasions when I allow myself a "forbidden" treat, my levels don't shoot up. My eyeglasses prescription didn't change at all from last year til this year. Is there a chance I could have been misdiagnosed, or is one little pill every morning really keeping it so under control?

I would say if you are on medications that yes, they do do wonders. If you are really concerned that your doctor is wrong then I would go with your gut instinct and get a second opinion.

At first I thought my doctors had made a mistake too. I felt fine, I didn't have any symptoms or so I thought. But now that I have made some changes in my life I feel so much better. I have made some changes in my diet, started exercising on a regular basis and taking my medicine has made all the difference in the world. So apparently the doctor was right. Even though I didn't want to believe them at first I am so glad that I listened to them and got myself on the right track. My life will never be the same but it will be fine and I will be much more healthy and thanks to my doctor I will feel so much better.

If you feel you need a second opinion than do so. Remember to keep taking your pills though, and follow your doctors instructions, cause if you don't you may have to start with the insulin.

definitely seek another opinion, but don't change your routine until advised to by a medical professional!

I recommend you go see a doctor who's a specialist in diabetes care. A second opinion is always a good idea.

You could always ask to be tested again, but the drugs that you are on are prpobably the reason why you are feeling ok. If you were not taking the drugs, you would probably have some problems even though you do not feel like it right now.

I know it sounds odd to think that one little pill can really affect you so dramatically, but trust me - it can.

when I started taking corzide for my hypertension I didn't think much of it until I had to stop for a short time under medical supervision due to antibiotics - I was SO sick....

have it checked again if you wish, but really.. it can be that dramatic!

It never hurts to get another opinion, especially from a doctor who knows more about diabetes. But it is also very common, psychologically, for people under treatment and feeling fine to think there is nothing wrong and they can stop. A good doctor should have already talked this over with you and given you clear explanations as to why you were diagnosed and how the treatment works for you.

Theer are a few tests that can determine if you are really borderline( and yes I use that term because its accurate).
The test involves one week without any type of medication.
You are placed in the hospital on teh last day fo the week with no meds.
Then the following morning you are given a fasting glucose test, then a 30 minute load with a 30, 45 and 2 hour pull, again allw ith no medication. At teh same time they are also doing an insulin level test. This given them a clue as to how much insulin you are producing.
It also gives them a clue as to how much glycogen your body excreted.
This series of tests is definitive if suspect borderline is too controlled and static.

Any diabetic has periods of highs and lows regardless of the effectivness of the medication.

Joslin diabetes Center has office in almost every region. They willd o a rescreening as well.
