Default Marathon?

I've heard of marathons to raise money for diabetes research, but have never really gotten involved. I have other health issues that would probably keep me from ever participating, but I would love to do my share by sponsoring or giving a donation. If anyone has any details about one of these fundraisers, please post the information.

Default Diabetes.org

I did a little research and found there are a number of places to donate/help with the diabetes cure. I would suggest going to http://www.diabetes.org for more information.

I will see about putting up a donation link on Diabetic Discussion in the near future.

A donation link here would be a wonderful idea. If you have a paypal account, I know they make it pretty easy to put up donation links. Maybe you could go through them. Or maybe you'll find a direct link to the diabetes org for donations. This is such a worthwhile cause.

Depending on where you live, local or national diabetes orgs sometimes sponsor these, along with hospitals.

These types of fundraisers are very popular in California. In fact, there are triatholon fundraisers as well!

Default Why Running?

I don't really understand the logic in using running marathons to get money for diabetes. Unless you are very, very careful, most people who run marathons can easily get blisters on the feet or develop many foot problems from pushing themselves to run for miles and miles.

Somehow it seems a little like selling sugar filled candy to get money for diabetes. The action that gets the money isn't exactly the greatest thing for people who have the disease.

I can see maybe walking for diabetes, and there's no winner for the fastest. Just a win for everyone who finishes. I can see any sport that is gentle and won't hurt the people with the disease who enter the fundraiser. How about golfing for money? Swimming? Biking? Dancing?

Why running? Is it the most popular sport?
