Default Smoking and Diabetes

Do diabetics have even more consequences from smoking than those without the disease?

YES!!! Very much so! Most doctors will say that smoking and having diabetes is like a death sentence! Diabetes greatly increases your risk of heart disease, as does smoking. It's like a double whammy on your poor body. Smoking has also been linked to an increased and earlier incidence of diabetic complications, such as kidney failure and vascular damage, which can lead to amputations.

We (as a society) all need to learn to live HEALTHILY, diabetes or not. And that means not smoking!

If your doctor has not warned you about smoking, my personal opinion is to fire him and get a new doctor. I know it's not easy to quit, but trust me, your body will thank you. It's not fun to have a heart attack or open heart surgery at age 45. Quiting is just one of those things that needs to be done, just like controlling your blood sugars.

I have been warned on the dangers of smoking from my Dr. and friends and family. I keep trying, but my longest success was for almost two weeks. I am not going to give up on winning this smoking battle. I will win the war! The dangers are just to great.

Default My hubby quit

My hubby quit before his surgery. Thankfully we had a doctor that helped him through it. He used the patch and she provided an exceptionally low dose anti anxiety med. Then he switchd to an OTC called Calms Forte.
He also at a lot of oranges.
It took him a few weeks to get accustomed to not ahving a cig after a good meal, so I started cooking crappy.......
really it was easier with the calms forte and oranges.
You also ahve to consider teh second hand smoke. I have more damage from my parents and family smoking than they do.................

Default Of Course!

It's become a rather dark joke in my house. Whenever there is an announcement or a news article about a drug, an illness or a bad habit like smoking, you always hear the t line, "And the people who should be even more careful are: small children, the elderly, people with heart disease and diabetics." Always!

Use this as a rule of thumb. If you can get sick from something, having diabetes will make it even worse.
