Default Diabetic Feet

I have seen a person in the street I assumed was diabetic because of the feet ulcers he had left uncovered by the bandage. The ulcers extend from the toes to about half of the leg. He was having difficulty walking even with a walking stick. My friends and I were thinking of approaching the man and perhaps offer to bring him to a hospital to have his feet properly cleaned but thought against it.

My mother's co-worker died of complications of diabetes. Before that, one of his legs had been amputated because of gangrene. Will there be any other solution for gangrene other than amputation? The moment he got amputated, he really lost hope and didn't fight the diabetes.

Is the person you're referring to homeless? That's such a sad situation. Perhaps he has no resources.

that really does become a sticky situation. The best thing you can do is alert a local mission or hospital to have field social workers find the man.

My great grandfather had a toe that was amputated and then the doctor failed to treat the diabetes and he died from gangrene. He was 99 and was diabetic most fo his life.

I almost lost my leg from a diabetic abscess. This is because I didnt know I had blown my diabetes. I wasn't on meds just diet. Though hubby knew that I was full blown.

God know how many people are on the street in similar situations, and no one cares about them.

That is so sad! I care about them! I would definitely taken him to a hospital to get treatment, and kept in touch so I could continue to help. Of course I live in Canada, where at least hospital care is free. I feel so sorry for those who are poor and living in the US. It's not right, the system you guys have there!
