Default Daily Care

Here are the few things about foot care that diabetic people should take care of:

1) Keep your feet clean and dry especially between the toes. Use talcum powder to dust the foot.

2) Inspect your foot daily

3) Do not try to remove corns and callus yourself.

4) Choose good quality shoes that fit perfectly.

5) See a Podiatrist at least annually.

good tips - as well, make sure your nails are clipped neatly and don't dig into the flesh, as they will get ingrown and you'll need professional help to deal with it. It's serious enough for most people, but diabetics have a real problem with ingrown toenails!

Thanks for that list. It is important to follow everything on it. My mother inlaw is overweight and can't inspect her feet, and she stepped on a nail about 3 years ago, and til this day, she still is having problems with it healing properly.

If you can't inspect your own feet, have someone else do it for you.

Make sure the shoes you wear are well-fitting and don't squish your toes--and possibly cause blisters.

To add to the tips, consider open-toed shoes to avoid blisters. Also when cutting toe nails, cut the nail straight across, don't make inward cuts to avoid cutting the skin and avoid ingrown toenails, like Thumperfive said. Never go barefoot.

Thanks for the helpful tips!

Also - relax! Get a foot massage and put those dogs up when you are reading or watching TV!

Keep your skin soft by sloughing after showers!

Once a week or so, I slather my feet with Aquaphor and put on cotton socks all night. It helps prevent calluses and keeps them smooth.

Thaks for this list. I wish someone had told me when I was first diagnosed that I needed to pay special attention to my feet. It would have saved me from a lot of misery! I am going to make sure to give this list to everyone I know with diabetes.

it's easy to forget about your feet - even if you're in good health you should still pay attention to those lumps below your ankles!

Thanks for the reminder lol. I try to take care of my feet everyday but sometimes i forget. but in the long run they just get worse if I don't take care of them.
