I remember reading in a decades old book that sunlight was good for your eyes. That was before the possibility of ultraviolet damage was discussed as it is now.

So now, do you think that the eyes benefit from some limited time in the sunlight, with or without sunglasses?

Medically speaking I have no right nor background to speak on bahalf of any professional advice

but personally, I think limited as in (5-10) in the sun without glasses would be fine and possibly quite healthy, but anything more should be worn with glasses on simply because, as you mentioned the UV rays and such.

I tend to agree with that. On really bright sunny summer days, I find the sun much more intense than I used to.

It's partly a little bit of getting older, and maybe it is noticeably more intense because of the UV rays.

I've had almost the same discussion with my doctor over sun exposure. He says that it's important to have 15-30 of sun exposure each day to absorb the vitimans you need from the sun. I have always avoided that much sun exposure becaus I burn easily. He suggested the best thing would be to get that exposure during the early morning hours when I was less likely to burn, then apply sun screen. Always wear eye protection and sunscreen after 10 am.

I never heard of this. I didn't know our body absorbed vitamins through our eyes, I always thought we absorbed it through our skin. I will ask my Dr. about this.

I love the sun during the summer and actually i had sunburned eyes!

I am photosensitive and ill tell you its painful!
I prefer to shade my eyes with baseball cap brim during the summer and its worse because i wear glasses which magnify the rays.........

hence teh raeson for sunglasses to protect teh delicate tissue and avoid hyperexciting the optical nerves..............

Ok, reality hit. Yes, I know what you mean. I always where shades in the sun, I wear them everywhere except when I plan to go into deep water. Last year, my poor 4 yr old niece was enjoying the day back floating in the lake. I wasn't paying close enough attention to her, because when I looked at her eyes, they were beat read all around. She had small blisters the next day.

I hated those when i was a kid. Now I know better.
I also had to wear white long sleeved lightweight t shirt sweaters. I wa sliterally also allergic to the sun.. it woudl make so sick. It still does. But I tolerate it a lot better now.

This year I am trying teh enw clip on flip up sungalsses that fit on my regular glasses. they should work since they all are now ultra UV......
Thats another thing, since the waves are different, we odnt need teh actual sun blaring us, just being outside we absornb and convert.
So gettinga nice pretty or cool pair of sunglasses is not only fashionable but health wise!

My father had very light blue eyes and I and my sister have green which is also considered a light color. We also got our really bad near sightedness from him. REALLY BAD!

My father always wore dark sunglasses because he'd get sun poisoning from any amount of sun if he didn't. My doctor has told me and my sister to also make certain to wear sunglasses because of our light eyes.

Light eye color also make you less hand/ eye coordinated. That's why most sports stars have brown eyes. Light eyes also tend to get cataracts and even worse, they tend to get retinal detachment!

So if your eyes are light and you have diabetes, you really have to go to the doctor every year!

I went for my eyarly and after being in eths ame lenses for 14 years i had to geta new RX......
so.. I got these news glasses and i forgot how shiny and new glasses are, and for teh firt time i got a pair of clipon sunglasses. Polycarbonates dont come in transitions for my diopter.. but you know I found that thgese help alot against those blaring whiteouts thati used to get. But i do find that if i dont wear them i am sun blind for about an hour..........
I always though that wa scrazy about teh color of your eyes but its oh so true, especially if your eyes have atendency to change color like a barometer!
