Retinopathy

I had Retinopathy a few years ago and wanted to see how many of our users have had it. I ended up going through about 2 years of eye surgeory.

If you have anything to add, please do. It's not a good complication, but there are none.

My dad had it. he went through the lazar surgery and he only had to have the one surgery done.

I feel like I am begining to develope it, butteh doctors all say, the surgeons as well, that I dont have u-it. What I am having mimics it, from teh migraines and the scar tissue from an old eye infection and two injuries.

Now I am curoious, you had retinopathy what was it like to see? or should I say what did you see? was there many floaters, blurriness.. it's fine to read in text books, but personal accounts are so much better.
My father just complained of an oily feel in his eye and he kept rubbing them and he said he at times spots.

I had both of my eyes done.The first time was in 98 in the left. Had six surgerys done on it,and lost my vision in that eye in 2002.The hardest thing for me was the novocain shot underneath the eyeball.That was VERY painfull for me.After that my docter put me to sleep for the rest of the surgerys.If you can go that rout I recommend it.
My right was done twice,and I can still see out of that one.My doctor told me its a matter of time before I lose sight in that one.It could last 30 to 40 years or 2 years.It all depends on my blood sugar levels.
One of my problems was I waited to long when I started to get floaters.By the time my eye doctor say me it was to late.My eye was full of blood and my retina started to detach.
To answer Jimmy, when I had the floaters you could still see. After a while a reddish haze would start to develop. Then after the eye is full of blood, all you saw was shaddows in that eye.

Hi Carl! Thanks for sharing your story. Complications are not something we like to think about, but they can be a very real part of diabetes, and one that many don't like to talk about. Thanks for giving people information that may help them to know what to look for.
