Default Eye Stroke and Diabetes

My grandma is diabetic and the dr. said she had an eye stroke. I don't really know a whole lot about them and was wondering if anybody has any information about them. Could the eye stroke be connected to the diabetes? She does have some change in her left eye it is now a little droopy. She loves to knit and cross stitch and is having a little trouble doing the things she loves. Any information would be great. I wonder if her diabetes improves that the vision will improve as well.

I don't think that eye stroke is connected to diabetes. You should consult with Doctor for further information.

I have never heard of that myself. Diabetes can cause problems with alot of things, so maybe that is something that I myself have never heard about. I hope it isn't too serious.

Is this a symptom of glaucoma ? The question is , is there damage to the eye proper or just the lid tissues? Loss of visuion or just discomfort because of muscles not working? Because diagnostic web sites ask you to look into light and if there is pain this is a symptom of a real problem.

Otherwise it sounds almost stye like but a collpase of tissues instead of blockage.

Default Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy

yes there are such things as Eye strokes. They are a situation where by the blood circulation is somehow impaired, or suddenly elevated causing leakage or suffocation.
theer rea basicaly 2 types of eye stroke. Arteric and Non artteric. Both can be triggered by Diabetes which already compromises the circulatory systems.

http://www.visionww.org/drswindsor-opticnerve.htm

Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy is also known as (AION). This is considered the first form of a stroke of the eye or optic nerve. is a visually devastating disease that occurs in the middle aged and the elderly. It begins suddenly with little warning in one eye, but frequently progresses to the other eye over time

The second form is known as Non-Arteritic" Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy or NAAION. This is the most common form of AION and generally has a better visual outcome than the arteritic form.

The most common diseases which can put a patient at higher risk for NAAION are Diabetes mellitus, shingles, anemia, rheumatoid arthritis and so on.

the mechanisim of the condition, of either type is due to ischemia or poor circulation to the blood vessels of the optic nerve. Without nutrients and oxygen, a portion of the nerve tissue will be lost.

Diabeties has an affect on alot of different parts of the body. As far as an eye stroke is concerned, I haven't heard of that but that doesn't mean that it doesn't exist either. The blood vessels in the eye can erupt just like the blood vessels in your brain. As we get older our eye sight becomes slippery. I don't think that her eye sight will flucuate along with her diabetes. As far as getting better is concerned but it is capable of getting worse.
