I'm considering going to water aerobics. I believe it would be good exercise. I love the water, unfortunately I don't know how to swim. So I thought that might be a good alternative. I'm just looking for something different than the monotony of the treadmill everyday. Opinions?

I used to do water aerobics and I loved it because it was so easy on my knees. I have petella femoral syndrome and it makes it so hard to get exercise since I can not do anything that is high impact. I say give it a try you will love it.

I think if you are overweight, water aerobics would be the way to go. It's not too hard on your joints. I hear that you can burn more calories swimming that jogging!

I really enjoy walking. Especially after a stressful day a great walk always helps me out. I live in the northeast and the weather isn't always cooperative. So when it is really hot or really cold I pull out my Leslie Sansone tapes. They are walking tapes and she has all kinds of them. 1, 2, 3 mile. 30 minute, 10 minute tone there is really something for everyone. I have tried riding bike but didn't really care for it. I hate the tread mill too, really boring.

You don't have to know how to swim to do water aerobics. I really like them, for a lot of reasons. [Least of all, no sweating!]

It's very easy on the joints, and if you do it in a class, you won't get bored.

Yes, I heard the same thing. Swimming is like an overall workout. Brisk walking is a good exercise, specially if a diabetic has a heart problem.

And what's great about walking is that you can do it virtually everywhere--even inside your home during bad weather, etc.

You must remember to stretch. Go to self.com for tips.

You will get so much more out of your exercise if you loosen up the muscles first. Ths eans getting blood flowing fas into cramped areas or little used muscles or it may cause accidental injury.

Injury happes when you are;t accustomed to muscles working a certain way, they give out and the bone or joint takes the pain. Try taking Chrondoitrin the night before and/or doing some yoga poses to get some flxibility into the joints.

Stretching is important in any exercise program and for whatever reason one is exercising. I used to be one who didn't "mess with" this step a time or two and boy did I pay the price!

Walking on a treadmill is good, especially in a busy gym. If you can keep your mind occupied for 30 minutes of brisk walking, your body will thank you.
