Lightbulb Yoga for Diabetes

Hi, I am from India and I have seen many people practicing yoga to contain diabetes. Ideally, one should walk for 30 min and do yogic exercises along with pranayam (breathing exercises), relaxation, and meditation.

Amongst these Pranayam is most effective.

when you say "contain", do you mean that they don't need any medication and have stopped taking insulin?

I love yoga. A friend got me into it and at first I wasn't so sure about it but after I gave it a try I absolutely love it. I am not very good at it as I have just started but I had no idea it would help with my diabetes. Now that I know that I will stick with it. I will have to do some research on how it can help.

I have never heard of excersise containing diabetes, I thought only diet would do that? Does it have something to do with burning sugar in your body?

Yes, many people who practice yoga, don't need to take insulin injections or pills. I have seen people who used to have blood sugar level of 140 to 160 and after started doing Yoga they reduced the sugar levels to 90-100. But this does not mean that Yoga treats diabetes completely, it simply helps you in keeping it under your control.

I can’t say how it helps but I know for sure that it does help because I have seen people getting benefited.

Yoga includes:
1. Cleansing techniques: which free the body of all morbid matter. This includes stomach wash and washing of intestinal tract.
2. Yoga Asans: These are different exercises that help increase metabolism and manage diabetes.
3. Pranayam: which include many type of breathing exercises to help clean blood & increase metabolism.
4. Relaxation & Meditation

PS. One must learn yoga from some experienced yoga practitioner. You will find genuine ones in India.

can you point to some medical studies that would back this up? It sounds great, but I wouldn't start a regime and stop my pills unless it had some scientific basis... but it sure wouldn't hurt!

Well the technique is known, there is no need for studies.
The massaging of the poses of the internal organs increase circalation and expansion and release of thw abdomen and stomach and sternum muscles that would otherwise not occur, not even with repeated exercise.

It's like a self-massage, except using muscles tissues in poses instead of tissue contact.

Yoga is a great, low-stress form of exercise. It's perfect for a diabetic! (And, non-diabetics, too!)

It exercises your mind, and relaxes your mind, too.
