Default testing

There are some guidelines that are most needed before doing exercise:
first you must test your blood sugar. Failinmg to do so could cause you to have a hyperglycemic episode. that is too low blood sugar.
When you exercise you use radily available glucose. During exercise your body uts out and uses glycogens.
Your blood sugar will peak slightly during vigorus exercise and then drop when you stop. By exhausting teh aount of glucose in the system, you create a negative effect and push ketones to compensate.
So why check before.
teh safe range for exercise is relatively moderate. it has to be above 112 to do exercise. otherwise you are just having enough glucose to allow your body to work.
If you are below 112, have at least 15 grams of carbohydrate before exercising. 15 grams boosts you up enough to keep 30-45 minutes of exercise without pushing ketones and chancing low blood sugar.

Failure to check and makesure you are in a safe range can cause you to have an effect.

Default Shoes

many diabetics find that they ahve trpouble from their shoes that they wear for exercise.
Thats because of a few factors. theer are some guidlines for choosing shoes.

they should be wide enough for feet to swell just abit and for toes to move. Having toes run together and cause blisters can be a problem.

minimal seams.
When choosing a shoe for any type of use make sure theer are minimal seams. Seams eventually give and cause a rubbing on the foot with a blister.

If your shoe has seams make sure they are felled, thinned or flat. If anything sticks up bunches or irritats justa bit, dot get them.

Shoes for diabetis shoule be made from breathable materials. Leather or canvas is best. This allows for continued air curculationa and that prevents athletes foot and keeps feet dry.

Shoes should be cofortable like a bed when you step in them. Do not buy a shoe that you " have to get used to" under any cicumstances.

Shoes should fit the purpose. A shoe that is used for running could be used for walkig but lacks some support Which ever sport or activity you choose make sure the shoe fits the need.

Socks: some acrylic, cotton, wool socks can cause irritation. find socks that are soft, breathable and dont make your feet feel strange. Socks should be comfortable non bindng but fit teh shoe for the purpose you need them.

Default Equipment: Bike

One thing I found being diabetic ws a bike seat.
I have an oldfashioned 6 speed cruiser and the seat was great, but it caused irritation. So I bought a bell Gel seat cover. It allowed the sweat to wick away and the seat to remain comfy. I also found that the angle of teh handle bars were worng so I had to adjust my weight not to rest on my hands so I could prevent neuropathy on my palms.
Make sure also that your gear shifter works well. I discovered the hard way that my gear shift mneeds new cables.........
A little tweaking and your bike is perfect for touring and easy ride preventing diabetic butt sores.......

Default I never really thought about that

I never really thought about testing my blood before I worked out, I figured that if I'm feeling well enough to work out then thats what i'm going to do. But sometimes when I do work out, I feel some what bad but most of the time a chocolate bar picks things up.

Default getting to know your body

Many of us who have learned to ead our own bodies can pretty much tell when something is amiss.
When my Bgs are up I feel yucky, tired and suffocted in my muscle.
When my Bgs rae low my arms., hands fall asleep and tingling that just wont go away. very different than neuropathy, which is totally out there when i am high.
Sometimes my Bgs aer high even with two shots a day.

When I feel good theer a feelng of energy, when i feel off i am so stired... and whats really freaky is that sometimes when I am tired and my BGs are low it signals I am getting sick.

Default Sunblock

sunblock titanium dioxide or other chemicals ws designed to protect the delicate skin from being burned. Its reflective properties and UV absorbing properties prevents UV adn other ray particles form penetrating and literally burning the skin.
Applying sunblock refects rays and reates a sheild on teh skin. But it does wash off and is salt dilutable so it has ot be reapplied. Andteh SPF just means that you can have protection for that amohnt olonger. Base odn athe 15 minute rule for a general sunbrun and SPF of 5 means yo an stay out 5 times 15 withoutthe need for reapplication, just multiply the SPF by 15 and thats how long you need before reapplication, if you are out of the water and not sweating.
