Default Diabulimics

Interesting article I found on CNN.

Teens, young women fixate on fact that skipping insulin equals weight loss
Skipping insulin can also lead to coma, problems with eyes, kidneys
Recovered diabulimics work to encourage others to get help

OK thats just plain scary. we learned about that but its becoming more prevalent than they let us on to beleive.

I know when my gastric parisis witrh esphagial stricture act up i throw up, thatc oudl be why the doctor thought this was what I had. BUt I always double check afterwards and give a shot of i need it.
I gues sgetting teh girsl past their teen age years and in with positive ideas is teh best way then letting them flounder.
I also think parental stress and teen peer pressure is a major cause.

Thast why I like teh Diabetes geared Camps it mightbe an interesting study to see how many girls develope this when they in a positive reinfprced motiavted place versus those tahat depen on peers and parents to cope.

I can understand how the idea that not taking your insulin can make girls, well people, want to skip their insulin to lose weight. When I was getting sick with my diabetes, just before I was diagnosed, I had been losing 10 pounds a week! I was sick as a dog, but I managed to get to the scale to see how much I was losing each day. It can be addictive when all this society tells you to do is get thin and lose weight.

Because I was so ill I was hospitalized and got the diagnosis and I stopped acting so foolish, but I can see that if someone can just about function and still lose weight it would be a terrible pull to keep on making yourself sick. They probably tell themselves that if they really get sick they will stop. That's when other people have to get involved to help them.

It's so hard to fit in and be a part of this society when it tells you that you have to be thin to be worthwhile. Not everyone can turn their backs on that thinking. I'd guess that many diabetics are out there playing roulette with their health.
