Default Menopause Linked to Elevated Fasting Plasma Glucose Levels in Nondiabetic Women

May 8, 2007 — In nondiabetic women, menopause, but not age, is an independent risk factor for elevated fasting plasma glucose levels, according to the results of a study published in the May-June issue of Menopause.

in the entire article it goes over the test subjects and the outcome was that menupause and not nessacerily age was a predertminiate risk for elevated glusose levels. this gace rise to a supposition that many menuopausal women who are disgnosed as type 2s may in fact not be true types 2 but rather be causitive temporary types that will alleviate itself after menopause quits.

what they further went on to discver is if a woman is not diagnosed with type 2, and proper treatment strated and then control given, the probability of long term subsequent damage is equal to those who were diabetic longer or premanopause. Basically if your in menopause get yourself tested with an in hospital fasting GTT. The gold standard with an A1C.

This is a sample of the type of thinking that implies that all the natural things that women go through can also be looked as an illness. Menopause is trouble, having a period is an annoyance that must be stopped, elevated estrogen levels, that make you a woman, is also said to be a contributor to many illnesses. Having a baby early in life is bad for your health, having one late in life is bad. Not having a baby is bad too.

How does this test help? What exactly are menopausal women supposed to do? Get hormones and keep those ovaries working even after they want to retire?

If a woman has elevated A1C tests then she needs treatment. Forget menopause, forget anything else. If your doctor isn't testing you at least once a year for the many illnesses that can get you, with the many inexpensive tests that are easily available, then it's time to get a new doctor.
