Thing is, it's not only sneaky, for some people it could be downright dangerous.

It's about time these companies started telling the truth about what's in their products and stopped misleading consumers.

it's tricky, that's for sure - even the "organic" products don't have to be labelled and some of them aren't even THAT organic!!!

*sighs*

The other aspect of course, is that one countries interpretation of a product may be different to another.

In the UK, eggs can only be labelled Free Range, if amongst other things, the birds are kept at a maximum of 400 to the acre.
In many other countries, free range, is classified when as many as 1,000 birds are kept to the acre.

It's just one example, but shows how you may not know exactly what you are getting.

I hear you about "organic" products. I try to remember to read labels, especially if it's a new product I'm considering buying. All too often I stand there wondering why it's called "healthy" or "organic" when it looks like a very bad thing to eat.

The latest "assignment" I've given to myself is to learn all the "hidden" names of ingredients. There are many names for things like sugar and although most of us know the top two or three names, there are others that we wouldn't even suspect.

Yes, true. There are about half a dozen that are very
recognizable, but then there are "new" ways to disguise
sugar and those are the ones that I think people really
need to be educated about. It's a long process!

Default hidden ingredients

Organic according to the USDA is really a strict meaning., However everything we eat is organic, unless its plastic.
Organic means made fo pure molecules. So an apple regardless if it has been sprayed with something is still organic because we cant manufacture it.

However as an organic farm.. we use no pesticides except for soap, we use no herbacideds except for fast acting quick neutralizibng ones a long time before we plant. I shoudlnt say we, hubby does all of that.
So wehn you see organic it means that it uses minim,al land prep and protection.

As to hidden ingredeints, we just ahd a shocker the other day.. ok you buy coolwhip, lite and you get more carb than original coolwhip for the same size portion. YOu buy Rediwip extra creamy you get less than 1 gram per same size as cool whip.........

The thickeners kill you. they take out the sugar add other things and you think your getting something better......
