For some reason people think that massage means a professional should work on you, or that you need another person to do it to get any benefit from it.

One night when I was in the hospital and in pain and I had hours until my next pill, a nurse told me that my doing a massage on what bothers me can be a big help to relieve pain. As long as you don't pound your body or really squeeze anyplace, a warm and gentle massage can alleviate pain.

I have carpal tunnel syndrome and keeping my arms warm and massaging my arms from my wrist to elbows helps get the blood moving. The same thing with my arthritis in my hands. Warm your hands and gently massage up and down your fingers. Bend and straighten them a few times gently. Do it for a while as you watch TV or listen to the radio or as you talk. You will be amazed at how much this helps calm pain.

When my feet hurt from lack of circulation, again gently and with warm hands, just run your hands up and down your leg and rub your feet.

It seems so silly and such a little thing to do, but it has helped me so much.

I have a massager thatI sit in my chair whenever I feel the need to give myself a massage. I think that it feels alot better than having someone else give me one.

I find that using lotions and such takes up too much time and effort for my liking. I massage my hands all the time. I also can't stand to smell anything on my hands.

When I massage my hands or feet I just use the warmth of my other hand to soothe the pains I have there. At most I might wash my hands in hot water first to warm them up if they are too cold, but I use self massage just to relieve pain and stiffness.
