Unhappy Lost day of eating

One thing I found in all my eyars is I get bored with food. And some days you just want something bad. Like today, I went to a chinese restaurant and ate..
I of course took a shot, but still it wasnt as good as i had hpoed it would be. maybe guilt.
Anyway.. i came home after finishing up at work and had justa slimfast shake and cup of coffee.. now its like 11 pm and i just wanted somehting..s o I had turkey on rye with deli mustard.......
i know it wa sbad eating and even though i stayed below in carbs i still feel bad...... notjust guilt wise but physically.. no energy.. my bgs are 135, and just blaaaahhhhh

Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.........

Lightbulb Be Prepared For Off Days

Off days happen to all of us. Don't feel too bad about it.

You might want to plan of off days when you know that you'll be looking for something different to eat.

Chinese food wasn't a bad choice. I don't know about carbs and Chinese food, but as long as you keep away from fried foods and get lots of veggies and have a huge bowl of soup, you won't harm your diet that badly.

Also you might want to have a small bag of snack food hidden in the back of the freezer that you can indulge in when the temptation is too much. Look around and see if you can find a small portion snack bag with something in it that might call to you, whether that call be salty or sweet, the next time you are in the supermarket. Wrap it up and forget it until that Siren song of temptation gets to you.

And if you just want to fill your mouth and pig out, have a bowl of cooked and raw veggies with chick peas (garbanzo beans) which might satiate that taste for meat, and loads of spices. A few hot pepper slices and you won't be able to eat, much less over eat!

And now that you might have had too much salt in the Chinese food -- drink lots of water. That will help your body get rid of the excess salt and start you back to a balanced sodium level.

If you are prepared for off days you won't do much damage at all.

Sometimes it just get like that when it comes to your choice of food. I get like that also. I get tire of eatiwng the same foods everyday and so I decide to try to change up a bit but once I do, it never turns out that great.

I've heard of people who specifically will have whatever they want for a meal maybe once a week, and I think that can have a minimal bad effect on our diets especially if the person doesn't feel guilty about it.

This thread raised an interesting point. I hadn't really thought about the guilt aspect of it, although I've sure experienced it.

I've been taught to not think of any food as "bad." I am counting carbs and I can cover any carb and keep my blood sugars good. I just avoid sweet soda and juice, any drink with a lot of sugar in it because there is no way to catch up with it because liquid hits your system faster.
From what I have read Chinese food makes your blood sugar go up unexpectedly. Just expect it to do that and do your 2 hour after you eat blood sugar check and bolus to cover whatever you are high.
As far as snacks late at night, there are a lot of things you can eat that have very little carbs if you are still hungry then. Make good choices.

If food doesn't seem to be doing anything for you lately or if nothing seems to be what you want to eat, you might try a three day fruit fast. Check the calories in the fruit and keep your meter on hand to be safe, but sometimes a complete change of diet and a strict kind of eating regimen might just make you hunger for the well balanced diet again.

I find that a fruit fast will get your body moving along well, what with all that fruit you won't be constipated. There's lots of water in fruit and that does well for people who don't feel like eating because they can be a bit dehydrated and not know it.

After three days of fruit, just add some grains for the next day and then go back to your usual eating plan. By then you might actually be longing for the well balanced diet that bores you now. And you will probably fit into your jeans comfortably too.

It happens. Being diabetic you go through periods of not eating, eating wrong and them being very good and sticking to a balanced diet.....
Like lately this past week, with getting back into the water my apetite has dwindled.......
If you add up everything i ate theer really si very little except for 30 grams of fiber 27 grams of protein and about 30 grams of carb all day long.......

I find that mostlyt its pre menstrual my " bad days of eating".
Also fruit fasts are nto a godo idea for a diabetic..... while it may be good for someone with a normal insluin level, it can create havoc just as bad as eatingw rong. and I fo one dont liek all those shots........

Again, I guess each person has to know themselves and how their body reacts to things. When I was on insulin, I always found that I could digest fruit and fruit sugars with less of a blood glucose reaction than I could eat bread or grains. Those would make me absolutely fly and my sugars would soar, while a light menu of fruit and some yogurt would keep me level all day.
