Default Low Carb Products

Do you think that the trend of carb counting has become less popular in the last couple years or so?

It seems to me that there are fewer products out there now that offer fewer carbs.

I agree. A few years ago during the low carb craze the shelves were full of products. Since finding I'm diabetic in late '06 the shelves are now practically empty of low carb foods.

I remember a dedicated section at one of our local supermarkets, and I think there were even specialty stores around.

Where do you find the specific low carb products you use?

If you go to nutrition based stores they will still have a lot of low carb, but the whole carb counting was a fad for a while and now that it isnt the thing to do regular stores arent stocked up anymore.

The grocery store I go to has Dreamfields & a limited amount of low carb items in there diet section, so I do a lot of label reading. There's also a health food store I've gone to but they're pretty expensive & don't carry much more.

Well,

at my local supermarket, they still randomly advertise low carb products although it has been quite a long time since I have seen any major campaign for this. I guess awareness for health sort of shifts to the disease that gets most funding or was a cause of some major recent tragedy out there.

It is sort of a shame since we should be aware of all aspects of our health and not just a few things like breast cancer or HBP.

The low carb fad affected how I shop for groceries and how I cook, but I'm not fanatical about it.

I try to limit starches and choose whole grain products when there's a choice.

No, the low carb thing is still a big thing to a lot of us in California. Most people have learned that they just need to learn to eat the right carbs, and for some not eating carbs at all works great for their sugar staying constant.

I have only recently become really concerned about carbs (after being diagnosed with prediabetes). I have found that if you really look for the stuff, you can find some products that are low in carbs. Some of the south beach diet items are low in carbs and high in fiber. It's too bad that they are so expensive, though!
